Feministing all night long....

I've been lurking on the blog Feministing for quite a while now, but last night I finally decided to register and make some comments, and I think it definitely enriched my experience to be able to interact with other readers, and input my own opinions rather that just reading what other people had to say. In fact, I went a little crazy with the commenting and wound up staying up until 2:30 in the morning because I got into a few discussions with people.

It's so interesting how many different kinds of feminists read and comment on that blog. The funny thing about any kind of forum or even any kind of movement is that disagreements are rampant. I think that's fine, in fact, I think it's good. I don't think I've ever come out of a discussion with people who entirely agree with me feeling enriched (although maybe a little validated.) Some of my most interesting and memorable discussions were with people who entirely disagreed with me, because I got to hear arguments about WHY that particular belief is held, and have strengthened my own opinions many times by arguing against others. Also, I've heard many valid points that make me rethink and reshape my own opinions. All in all, I think that argument is a very good thing, as long as everyone is respectful and stays away from name-calling. I also don't like it when people are just trolling for a flame war, and twist everyone else's comments. I guess I just ignore those ones (or read them, but don't feed them).
